The team at Cherry Digital were approached by Security Baron to generate press coverage across the nation and boost organic links in order to increase brand awareness. The links generated were through authoritative news pages, including Times Online, ABC News 4, Fox 29 and News Channel 5.
Unlike paid advertising, SEO and organic link gains can have an ongoing, long-lasting positive effect on a brand’s marketing strategy. Search engines tend to favor content that emerges from authoritative sources, or sources that have expert knowledge in the concerned field. In fact, the acronym ‘E.A.T’ stands for expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness and features in Google’s search quality guidelines. A good way to assess the quality of a webpage is through a measure of its domain authority (DA), which places an emphasis on the quality of the source (rather than the quantity of monthly visitors, for example).
For this reason, when beginning outreach for this Security Baron campaign, it was important to ensure that the links were not only organic, but of high authoritative domain as well. Links remain a key factor in search engine rankings and may prove even more valuable when shared through strong sources – a shared link is essentially a thumbs up from one page to your brand. It’s always a good idea to do a web search to assess the kind of content displayed on competitors pages on the first page of search results, in order to judge the quality preferred by Google’s algorithm.
Security Baron provides research into and information about the best home security options and smart home automations. Armed with data from studies conducted by Security Baron ranking the safest cities in each state, we created a press release that depicted this data, with a particular focus on where the best places are to live and work.
The information for these rankings is based off the FBI’s 2017 and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting data, which includes factors such as murder rate, robbery rate, assault rate, burglaries, theft and income. This information was illustrated in a list-style infographic of the scores for each state, allowing readers to compare safety scores across the country. The data revealed the safest cities in 2019 ranked by a range of categories such as population, households, violent crimes, property crimes and median income. These were amalgamated to form an overall safety score of each city out of 100.
Across America, the safest city was found to be Mendham Township, New Jersey with a high safety score of 92.29. The small town has a population of 5,883; a violent crime rate of 0 (per 1,000 people) and a rate of just 1.02 property crimes per 1,000 citizens. Second on the list emerged Wayland, Massachusetts with an overall safety score of 92.09. Wayland is home to 13,976 residents and has a violent crime rate of 0.14 per 1,000 people. Its property crime rate is 0.64 per 1,000 citizens. In third place was Lewisboro Town, New York with a safety score of 92.04 and a population of 12,823. The town has a violent crime rate of 0 per 1,000 citizens and a rate of 0.08 property crimes per 1,000.
The campaign was a real success and we achieved coverage in 300+ publications in different states across the US, with a focus on the acronym E.A.T in terms of web page quality. The links gained were mainly dofollow links, which are traditionally considered the strongest links that can be obtained online.
